If a member of your family told you they had committed a serious crime, or if you found out, would you denounce them?

Nothing in my family, it was the subject of a programme last night, lead to some discussion.

No, I wouldn’t denounce them – except if it was my ex mother in law or her brother that is.

If they’d beaten up and left for dead a child/animal abuser probably no, if they’d robbed a bank and not shared the booty with me yes.

I suppose it depends on the crime as well. A son who confesses to raping a stranger is harder to accept than a son who confesses to having hit a pedestrian and left her for dead.

It depends on how you feel about the “family member”.

The pyromaniac who has admitted starting at least 18 fires in the south of France this summer, destroying who knows how many thousands of hectares of forest, turns out to be a 14 year old college student, caught in the act a couple of days ago. Wonder if his parents suspected and did nothing?
