I have started ordering from Amazon Germany. Delivery is great but they have taken the money twice for my last order. Have sent message to seller but they just said my order has been delivered. Not very helpful! Don’t speak German but thought the english version would be ok if I had a problem. Not sure where to go next. Can anyone help please.
And I would venture to say the problem stems from an ebay/paypal system glitch. Sellers have no access to buyers’ payment arrangements. The ebay corporate center is American and when I have had a problem in the past it is they that deal with it.
Quick rewind, and start again. My addled brain read Amazon and converted it to Ebay. Sorry to mislead you. I would think a similar situation exists. You should be able to sort the problem out in English somewhere. Good luck.
I’ll go and lie down.
Thank you all for your help. I have just read posts and thought I would have one more go. I didn’t need the german to explain it all came up in english. Did a chat on-line with Sasa and she explained that my french debit card is not exactly that. It pays as a mastercard (????? why i ask myself) the first payment on 12th was just to ensure the money is in the bank and the payment on 14th is the actual payment. The first payment is then removed but the time it takes is anything upto 30 days depending on the bank. Weird but I can live with that. Have to say the German Amazon has always seemed efficient and anything I buy comes quicker than the french site.
One bit of advice to anyone using the site, I was directed to contacting the seller first and that is what panicked me. He replied in German and I thought ‘oh no, I’m not going to be able to deal with this’
So thanks for all advice.
Angela, I think you are confusing Mastercard debit cards and credit cards. If you look at your debit card you will probably see overlapping red and yellow circles, which indicate that it is a Mastercard.
As for them ‘setting aside’ a sum of money for a payment, I think that is the same as making a payment at filling stations. Because they allow you to buy petrol or diesel up to a maximum amount which is displayed on the screen (I think most companies have a maximum these days of 140€), that amount is set aside regardless of how much fuel you actually buy. For example you might buy 10€ of petrol for your lawn mower, but they still set aside 140€. The money is not actually taken, but merely frozen pending the actual payment. The difference between the two sums is not available to you in the meantime. In due course that ‘set aside’ amount is unfrozen. It normally takes 2 or 3 days. 30 days is not normal. A problem arises if you then want to buy something else, but your bank balance is apparently insufficient, even though you know you have enough money in your account.
I hope I am not teaching grandmother to suck eggs!
Morning Abi K
Thanks Abi, I did know re the petrol stations (some years ago there was a thread about it) but just didn’t equate it to the Amazon thing. The frozen petrol money never shows on my bank account whereas the Amazon frozen money is showing. I have just looked at account and the frozen payment has gone.
And no, you weren’t teaching me to suck eggs, you just gave me that ‘light bulb moment’. Thank you.
