Have just noticed that the broad beans are well up and ready. My wife has just taken a number of them and is steaming them in with her rice cooker with rice etc, and we’ll have a pan of blanched spinach, which will be then cooled and lightly drizzled with soy sauce. That combined with today trout might just work…..he says after 3 W&C’s. The question is though…. would I be able to tell

Wow I missed all the excitement this afternoon! Had to go out – it all sounds wonderful! Won’t tell Mr.F. you’re eating your broad beans – they’re his favourites and, because we’re selling, I haven’t planted anything this year so he’s missing out! I should think you’ve earned that W & C! :good:

Well, I am happy to announce that the second lot are smoking well, in 75 degrees, not cooking per se, but the proof will be in the pudding. Currently sat here watching a program about life in outer Mongolia and realising, yet again, how fortunate we are in living in such a benign environment. The sun is going down in the west with very little wind and wonderful summer evening temps.

Getting the hang of it now

And the two smoker guardians are enjoying themselves

Practice makes perfect lol. Last time I wrote those words was 200 lines from my awful maffs teecher…got 300 from the inglish git! :yahoo:
They look delish G, hope you are growing beetroot & horseradish as well. Can’t beat smoked fish with them made into a relish. :rose: the

    5th July 2016 at 9:18 pm #25730

Got beetroot growing, but no horseradish HJ. Next year hopefully.

    5th July 2016 at 9:28 pm #25732

Lightly roast the beetroot, slice thinly and drizzle balsamic vinegar over. Season with freshly ground pepper (I use espelette bit more heat)
Let it stand for about an hour, it’s fab with any smoked fish but even better with your own home smoked trout :rose:

    Looking good @Gleaner!!!!

    @hughjarse
    , that sounds de-lish!
Didn’t I sort you out with some horseradish Gleaner?
You could always use a couple of black pearls for some heat too ;-)
Just be careful how you prepare them, & don’t rub yer eyes after!!!

Well, today’s harvest from the garden was good. 3 kgs of tatties, loads of kale, spinach, carrots, peas, broadbeans, a lettuce and have just evacuated a trout which will be steamed with herbs. Nice evenings faire I think.

Don’t rub it in Gleaner! I look at my bare veg plots in despair, with nothing but the few radishes, that I scattered in desperation of having something growing, popping up! It’s the fault of the viewer who came in March, made the offer, which we excepted, with the promise all will be well when his divorce comes through in June – it hasn’t! I didn’t plant anything as thought we’d be moved out when it came to fruition – could have been enjoying lovely broad beans now!

Seriously, all credit to you, your harvest sounds brilliant, I’m just more than a little envious!
