We took out a top up insurance with Groupama in July.  The first prelevement was to be 15 August (holiday).  No money debited from our bank a/c on Friday 16, Monday 19th or Tuesday 20th.  Visited bank on 20th who said that a previous prelevement with Groupama (which we cancelled) had been returned to them.  First question is “Why”.  Apparently if you cancel a prelevement it is for life!!  Phoned bank and explained what had happened and they said the payment would be put through manually, that day, and they would send us a letter to sign and take to the bank authorising them to send the first payment to Groupama.  We did that the next day (Thursday) and they said the payment had gone through and we would see it debited from our a/c on Monday (25/8).  Checked yesterday, no debit, checked this morning, no debit on a/c.  Visited the bank again today and they said Groupama had to request payment.  Spoke to Groupama this afternoon and they said they had received August’s payment and no worry.  I am worried!  How, and where from?  It’s not showing on our internet banking!!!

It won’t be what you want to hear but I have just dumped Groupama. I had big hassle with them last year over a claim for damage caused by the water company. It took them 5 months to get an assessor round and 11 months before the claim was settled. During that period they were charging me twice for one of my policies.

My advice, get shot of them as soon as you are able. Meanwhile check your bank statements carefully.

We’re dumping them at renewal.  I also check our bank statements online every day.  Sorry to hear of your problems with them.
