I think he always had a glass of water next to him while recording. One day one of the crew replaced the water with vodka. His expression when he took a sip was priceless!
Well I thought he had a glass of whisky! Plus a cigarette going too!
I always thought it was whisky rather than water.
You could well be correct. In that case it was just cold tea meant to look like whiskey. Then when the prankster filled it with real whiskey, it took Dave by surprise.
I enjoyed his shows, loved the level of irreverence, not sure the pc brigade would appriceiate today,

I saw him live at Tito’s night club, Stockton on Tees. Wonderful entertainment. I don’t suppose we will ever know what was in the glass.
Also saw Tommy Cooper at the Fiesta club a few miles down the road. Painful! What I mean is that I laughed so much that it hurt.

I saw this the other day, still just as funny. It was a treat for me for my parents to let me stay up and watch him, I used to find it all so shocking but very funny! (Please don’t watch if you are likely to be offended!)
Oh that made me giggle WP! Timeless humour, some humour does not stand the test of time because it’s often about what’s current at the time and its humour is lost as time marches on but this will always be funny!!
