    Afternoon all.

We are building a staircase in our house and need wood for the diagonal stringers, but are struggling to find wood in the usual places (such as Brico Depot) that is wider than 175/200mm.

Ideally we need it to be 300mm wide so there is still some wood left once the stair grooves have been cut out.  We also need a beam, around 12cm square at the end and 2.5 metres long, which is proving tricky to find.

Does anyone know anywhere that does larger pieces of wood?  We’re in Callac (22).

You beat me to it PJ I have used the sawmill at Huelgoat which is not a million miles from Callac They are very helpful and usually have a variety of woods and will suggest something suitable for your needs They are situated behind the déchéterie  on the Carhaix side of town but of course there may be one nearer you

I’ve always bought directly at a sawmill, it’s usually a lot cheaper and they cut to the sizes you ask for.

    Jamie,

if you still havent had any luck finding the timber you need, give me a shout as I know a fantastic guy who has his own mini saw mill set up + tons of quality timber who can cut any size you need, and hes only up the road from you at Pont-melvez :-) .

Something else we don’t think about but can be found at the sawmill is wood bark for the garden. A lot cheaper than in plastic bag if you’re not difficult with the caliber. Few years ago, we bought a cubic metter that we loaded in the trailer for 15€.
