Hello, we’d like to find a local artisan to build a 4mx4m conservatory (Veranda) at our house near Rostrenen. Recommendations would be welcome. Thanks

Just bringing this back to the top Steve as I’d pushed it down by playing the games, hope someone can help.

If the games were all in a separate section it would be so much better.

Thanks for the replies, it seems odd that it gets shunted down by playing games

I understand what you mean Sh-sh I do try, when playing any of the games, to do that first and reply to other posts after so that they end at the top.

Steve it’s when you just click on  the ‘Forums’  in its entirety rather than click on individual forums, I tend to just click on ‘Forums’ to see what the latest post is rather than click on anything specific such as ‘Home and Garden’ and it’s in this general list that items get ‘pushed down’.

I agree with Shapeshifter but probably as I don’t tend to play any of the games.

I only open “general “, so all the games supersede the discussions , but then that is how it is on this forum , folks prefer to play games than to discuss stuff .

People discuss if there’s a good discussion going, Chris, don’t worry.

I click on Forums at the top then I can see what new discussions there are regardless of where they are – don’t like to miss anything!

We bought ours from Trade Price (Bournemouth), even with the 600GBP delivery charge it was still half the price of anything we could find here. We built it ourselves.

Thanks Marie & BartyB for the replies. I was in Trade Price a few days ago having a look and wondering if it might be an option. I think i’d still need someone for the foundations, walls, plastering etc. Are there any similar companies in Brittany? We had a look at a company in Corlay but the price was just too much.

The companies I know of here are:

    2PL

    Verandas du Tregor

    Technique A.B.C

    Akena verandas

(I know someone who had a 15 sqm one from Technique A.B.C and it was 30,000 euros, yes THIRTY THOUSAND!)

Thats a serious amount of cash, nearly as much as we paid for the house 14 years ago! Surprising then there’s not a company like Trade Price Conservatories doing business in brittany. We’ll just have to look harder.

We use Brittany PVC for our work and they were brilliant. They source some products in UK and bring them back with other peoples orders. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

They designed and priced our Veranda, the price was excellent but sadly planning was refused. Twice.

I am glad that someone has brought up planning Be aware that Brit style conservatories may not be to the liking of some  planning depts/Maires It is always wise to have preliminary discussion with your local commune taking along pictures to show what you would like to do

Our ‘UK’ style one was passed by our Maire with no problems at all. The only thing we had to do was ensure the water run-off went into the underground water tank that collects rainwater.

We had a meeting with the planning dept at the marie last summer, they were very helpful and guided us through the forms. We then submitted what we hoped to build alongwith photos and an impression of what it would look like. We kept it below the 20sqm limit and they agreed we could go ahead. Thats where we are now and we hope to either find someone locally to supply & build or bring one from the uk and get someone to build it. DIY is an option but to be honest we need foundations poured and block work done which is beyond me so subject to price we’ll maybe just get someone to do the whole lot. The difference in prices between uk and france is quite staggering, i’m still surprised there’s not a bigger budget conservatory industry in brittany. Then there’s the issue of Brexit (oops sorry didn’t mean to use that awful word) probably need to pay import taxes after we leave, Argh. However thanks for your thoughts and suggestions. Regards Steve

If I find anyone I’ll let you know. We found the prices here staggeringly high. There is no way we were prepared to pay the crazy amounts they wanted. My husband built the low wall himself. He is a handy DIY man!

Do you know of a Brickie in the UK who could do it for you? Even if you pay his ferry and lodgings I am sure it would still be loads cheaper.
