Yet,medical experts are still telling us that “it is not possible that you may have had the virus in January 2020”!
I read on a USA scientific website that doctors there were seeing patients with an unknown strain of pneumonia-like disease with symptoms very like Covid 19 in September/October 2019.
So it could be possible that it was kicking around well before that date.
4th May 2020 at 9:23 am #524217Indeed, I see today a French ICU doctor has evidence Covid was in France on or before December 27th
Virus was in Paris late December. 24 swabs were taken from patients with unknown respiratory problems, one proved positive for Covid. Its possible it arrived in France in December in very very low numbers of folks and slowly spread to where it is now. Its possible up to as many as fifty times more folks have had the virus. Fifty times more might sound like quite a lot but its still way way off 60% of the population, 60% of the population already being infected would have resulted in around 300,000 dead by now. Without a vaccine we are where we are until a vaccine is found.
The origins of Viruses are often unknown, I ended up in an isolation ward years ago covered in huge blisters and with very painful oedema in my legs, so painful it felt like hot coals were being poured down the inside of my legs every time I tried to stand. After extensive tests, I was, eventually, given steroids, which did, after a time, deal with the symptoms but there was never any conclusion as to what the virus was.
I’m sure many of us have had and have recovered from various unknown viruses and it wouldn’t surprise me if Covid -19 was about before it was diagnosed.
4th May 2020 at 9:53 pm #524271And now Germany have stated that they believe the actual number of infected people in Germany is at least 10 times the current official number. Which means an awful lot of people have been walking around not knowing they had it, or, that they had been feeling a bit under the weather at some point, but felt OK now.
5th May 2020 at 8:06 pm #524351I can’t see an effective vaccine being made available any time soon. I think it’s a case of trying to avoid it as much as possible and is practical.
A valid question TC. I’m sure businesses will be pleased as their losses must be very worrying and they can probably, with a bit of organisation, sort out some social distancing rules but it worries me that once confines are eased in some other areas people will think all is well, won’t take necessary precautions and we could be back to square one.
Anonymous6th May 2020 at 7:13 pm #524414I believe the lockdown is more about getting transmission of the virus down to manageable levels or even stopping transmission altogether until a vaccine or effective treatment can be found. However the longer the lockdown the more devastating effect on the economy and people’s livelihoods so a balancing act is needed. Ease restrictions to help get industry and economy back on track but if rates of infection start increasing beyond the capacity of health services to cope with, impose restrictions again. Repeat as necessary until vaccine/effective treatment introduced.
