Thank you all, quite a welcome. I live in Guiscriff so I am right on the intersection of dept 56, 29 and 22. I lived and worked most of my adult life in Devon apart from a 7 year spell in London. When I left school I took an apprenticeship as a industrial electrician but after 3 years I decided my real aspirations were in the transport industry where I spent the rest of my working life. I look forward to getting to know you and maybe make some new friends :good:

    Hi Saul,

Good for you! Would you describe your life as relatively stress free?  I cannot imagine living off the grid, I love the grid, I love the Internet and how it keeps me connected to so many people in so many places around the world. But I can appreciate how rewarding it must be not to be so inclined.

Welcome Saul, as has been said there are several members who would be interested in your lifestyle in your cob house. I’m sure even those that aren’t for their own purposes would be interested to hear all about it.

Apologies for a belated welcome to you John P, love the green bus!

I’m sure you will both enjoy belonging to this fun loving community

Welcome to a very nice part of Brittany we are 20 minutes up the road from you, not far from the beach and other fantastic places and hopefully it will all get even better as spring arrives.

Hello Ruth   you certainly have chosen a lovely place to live.  May you have many happy years here.

Just out of curiosity why did you choose Liffre?

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! @ Libby: my husband works in Acigné so we were looking for a place close by. We only had a week to decide upon a house so we didn’t have a lot of options. Liffré seemed nice and is not too far away from cities like Rennes, Fougeres, Vitré, or nice day trips to Saint-Malo, Mont-Saint-Michel in the other direction. It’s also right near the A84 so it’s an easy trip back home to Belgium.

Hello everyone, newbies here.  We are currently looking to buy near Chappell Neuve near Callac.  We have found a property which I love and wondered if any of the members live nearby to answer my questions, what is the village like, are there restaurants/bars and shops, can you get decent internet access?  We are very excited about coming over and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tracey…welcome to the forum and the area.
We live in Plougonver, just along the road from La Chapelle-Neuve.
Internet access is ok…..but nothing to shout about – we use an SFR line with internet telephone. Gives free calls to landlines all over Europe and other countries, all hours and days.

Selection of restaurants in Guingamp and Carhaix if you want more up market venues.
Locally in Callac there is Au Petit Goudig http://www.auptitgoudigtraiteur.fr/index.php/restaurant/sale-ouvrier (very typical Breton restaurant and Bar) +

    Hôtel Auberge Restaurant (Basque)in Callac

L’escale De Callac (opposite Point Vert highly recommend is welcoming and good value 12.90 for starter, main, cheese, dessert and coffee and 250ml red or rose wine)
Curry nights in La Chappele-Neuve next on 7th March (http://currysauceheaven.vpweb.co.uk/le-Faouet-meal.html)

La P’tit Creperie is in the centre of Callac. (They also have a mix of pizza’s and other dishes)

Hope this helps and if you want more info…send me a private message and I will give you my phone number if you wish to ring for further info.
The people in the area are warm and welcoming. Plus there is a lot of Brits in the area too   :good:

There you go Tracey….people are lovely here and the site owners exceptionally helpful.
As I said…..any help needed just shout !!  It can be very difficult when you arrive unless you speak the lingo fluently which we didn’t!…We got there without too much hassle eventually.
The other place to make yourself familiar with is the Mairie’s Office which can be of great assistance.
Have a lovely trip and enjoy the excitement of it.

1234etc I have the same problem all these passwords, for everything now, eBay, PayPal, amerzon, Facebook, my card company, here!, yahoo mail, cheese companies(gifts) , Sky, so it’s got crazy now, so I write them down in a special book!  It’s the username/password combination situation I find difficult, because after a while I forget which goes with what! :yahoo:

    Good afternoon all,

I’m currently in the process of buying a house to renovate in the village of Pleugriffet not too far from Josselin,  Me, the Mrs and a little one are looking to move over by the end of the year (hopefully).

We are a in our 30s and decided on getting away from the fast deteriorating England a few years ago and now we finally in a position to do it and can’t wait to get to Brittany to enjoy the better climate, people and places.

Great site by the way seems to be very lively and full of useful things.

    Lukas
