Started a health assurance plan with Pacific on 9 sept.2017 and Credit Agricole were the agents doing my paperwork. I now deem this plan unnecessary.

I have written to Pacifica by lettre recommendee asking to annul this plan. They write to advise me they cannot terminate this plan as i have  not provided a valid reason. I took this documentation to my bank manager this morning. He claims it is not possible to terminate this plan until sept.2019 as the Pacifica reply letter was signed by the general manager of Pacifica. I am puzzled as to why. This seems to be a tactic to fleece me for another year of super-high premiums.

Can anyone advise on valid reasons i can give to terminate this contract? Alternatively, can i go to AXA or similar for a policy with a new provider and would the new provider be able to terminate/transfer my enslavement ?

    thx

You cannot terminate a health insurance plan until you reach the end of the current contract period and then you need to give normally 2 months notice You can cancel a mutuelle if you are no longer part of the French health system ie you have moved out of France or have taken out private insurance or you die!

The reasons for cancellation will be set out in your insurance documentation

so i take it that as of 9 sept. 2018 which is one year after contract start, i can officially request termination of this policy ? Does the two month period to do this begin after 9sept.2018 or now until then ?

    thx

I think you’ll find that normally it’s 2 months before the year is up. If you were changing to another company then it’s they who would both advise of the possibility of cancelling and if so deal with it directly when starting the policy with themselves, even so the two month rule often applies, however, if you are just cancelling then I think that will have to be the two months before the year is up.

Jim, check to see if your policy is covered by a law called ‘ Loi Chatel’ most top up health policies are, if so then Pacifica or CA should write to you at least one month before the expiry date of the policy and advise you of any increases etc for the following year,  15 days before or after the renewal date, you then have 20 days from the post mark date on the envelope (so be sure to keep the envelope as proof) to cancel.

I’m taking it that this law is still valid, if it is, it might be worth letting someone independent look at your present policy to confirm this, as Pacifica might try and fob you off!
