Not something I have ever done but I have read plenty about the hassle or not that people have run up against in some cases. However this is nothing compared to the problems encountered when trying to import a non EU vehicle or “grey” import.
I just wondered if after the end of the year when UK is no longer part of the EU, how that will affect the import of UK vehicles into France. Will it be much more difficult or no change, presumably after December 2020 any vehicle first registered in The UK will be considered a non EU vehicle. Don’t think anyone has raised this, not that I have seen anyway.
Assuming that the UK is treated as a “normal” non-eu country the only changes will be that you’ll need to pay VAT and/or import duty (and get a certificate from the Douanes rather than a Quitus Fiscal) and you’ll HAVE to provide a certificate of compliance.
That’s what happens with current non-eu imports (been there done it), so unless it’s another area that is fudged that’s what’ll happen.Apres Brexit I do not know; but when we imported our car it was a pretty straightforward process. Had the carte grise and a new number plate in about a month.
One thing that might change, that is not mentioned above, is mutual recognition of vehicle tests (MOT, CT etc) across the EU.
The previous, valid British MOT was sufficient for the French authorities. After Brexit, a British car would have to be re-tested in France (as above, fudge notwithstanding).
