just watching a programme about John and Yoko, with a lot of footage I’ve never  seen before , he comes across as quite gentle man , with a lot of deep thinking values , quite surprised.  It’s obvious that he loved Yoko deeply. Also with his son, who appears to have  had a happy childhood. It’s amazing how your opinion is swayed by  the papers  at the time!   But like now with all the drama with Brexit .

I always thought of John Lennon as a profound, spiritual man, didn’t see the programme. Yoko 85? Well, that makes me feel really old, remembering the days when they were young!

Yes – It was an interesting film well put together – as you say, lots of archive stuff that hadn’t been seen before.

Personally, I’ve always thought that the main reason that the Beatles were such a great band was the diversity of the songwriting between Lennon and McCartney. McCartney’s songs were (and still are) musically simpler and, as such, were more instantly accessible to the ear – Lennon’s were no less great but they were always darker as if he was thinking beyond the song as it were. Having said that, the song “Imagine” is about as simple as it comes, but no less powerful as its strength is in the words. It was interesting that in the film Klaus Voorman, the bassist on the track, thought it could have been even more effective with only a piano backing.

Who knows what the future would have held had he lived. Yoko was obviously a huge influence and he was becoming politically active in the years before he died. This might have come to the fore and his musical output might have dwindled. Likewise he might now be experiencing a sort of musical renaissance that the likes of Leonard Cohen went through in later years. Who knows.

In the end he was a huge part of our musical heritage.

John Lennon…..a great singer that met an untimely death

Yoko, I’ve never been sure of. Slightly odd in my eyes!
