As I said in a previous topic, very few people actually gives a monkeys about saving our planet.

    Sad but true.

I saw this on the news last night. It reminds me why I don’t watch it much anymore. I also saw this today and find it apt.

As the far right gains power so the trashing of the planet in the name of greed will speed up.

    Good explanation here

The burning of the Amazon rainforest has been going on for decades but its destruction has only been a fashionable discussion topic recently.

We’re all culprits really and yes, the Amazon has been burning for years now (but not like this) but right wing idiots like Trump and Bolsonaro are going to speed up the destruction including the Amazon even more.

Has Macron and his government pulled out of plan to mine for gold in French Guiana? If not, environmentalists say they are worried this would be potentially disastrous if it goes ahead, more rainforest obliterated!

As Pete has already pointed out, most don’t give a monkeys!

No idea, hypocrisy is the name of the game with most politicians but rather this was condemned with hypocrisy than not at all. It seems to be, at long last, leading to a lot of condemnation and even threats by Macron to block an EU Brazil trade deal. Even Boris has joined in the condemnation. Obviously ulterior motives involved everywhere but better than nothing at all. Loads of public outrage on social media so perhaps they are taking notice of that proving that perhaps not everyone couldn’t give a monkeys….

Its not about saving the planet, its about saving our species. We are not part of the planet’s eco system, we to the planet are irrelevant. In fact the planet would probably love to see the back of us.

I often think with these World leaders, it can often be a case of “give with one hand and take with the other”.

” world leaders” do what the people want ?

Or is it the other way round , surely if the people are indifferent then the ” leaders” do what they want .

I find a lot of people on this forum are indifferent but also are ready to “crucify” those that are not !

World leaders are the ones that “don’t give a monkeys”.  They do what serves their own agenda.  The public don’t come into the equation apart from the next election when the sheep all trundle off to the polls to elect another set of charlatans.

Correct s/s but it is us (in the democratic world at least ) who elect these clowns so it is actually our fault.

Why don’t we, the electorate vote for the more Green/eco orientated parties for example ?

Surely our only hope is if we elect these people, tho’ that’s never going to happen, is it ?

It is mankind in general that is destroying the world we live in, whether it be from greed, ignorance or total disregard, the planet will still be here but who or what will be living on it in the future remains to be seen, though I’m not sure by whom.

I last year’s elections in France (municipal or Euros, I can’t recall) I voted for the local EELV (Europe Ecologie les Verts) in the first round. They were of course eliminated immediately but at least I tried.

The change you want can only be carried out by the elected parties but as the combined Eco vote keeps showing, the majority of the elecorate  feel other issues (ie : economy and unemployment etc) more important.

I’s not that most people are apathetic but more that there are more important things in life maybe ?

When we’re buggered it will be a world ruled by Rat’s, Seagull’s, Pigeons and Burmese pythons. All feeding on each other with the Cockroaches feeding on the scraps.

In that cartoon above, I have this image of another speech balloon just above Xi and Putin in which it says “Watch the party really get going when the balloon goes up”
