Marine Le Pen’s party is meeting this weekend to decide, amongst other things, on a change of the party’s name, which I don’t think will make much of a difference to the public perception, but for Mme Le Pen, “the proposed name change [is] needed to show the FN had grown up and become “adult” “.

Among the invitees was Steve Bannon, Trump’s former advisor, and on the news at lunchtime today, he was shown as saying yesterday, “They may call you racist, they may call you a xenophobe, they may call you nativist; wear those names as a badge and wear them with pride.” Hardly a step forward in the right direction, in my opinion.

    Guardian story here.

I read about this too. Very worryingly in my opinion. Fascism seems on the rise in Europe at the moment with lots of parallels to the rise of the Nazi’s in the 1930’s.  :-(

Dangerous times, cashing on the present climate , with worrying similarities with the situation then . My neighbours when we lived in France, were old enough to be very concerned, by  the undertones and hate!  :negative:

I can quite understand the attitude of ‘Put the French first’ and ‘Put Americans first’, but that is completely different to the  ‘No immigrants’ and ‘All immigrants out’ attitudes which seem to be creeping into and taking over certain parts of some political parties around the world.

If there was competent government in UK the problem would never arise.

Seeds of discontent are easily sown today be media with a vested interest in a certain outcome, and the internet where bad or fake news travels instantly around the world.

It’s not unnatural to want to secure the borders of the land that you live in against invaders from a culture that is hell bent on destroying your culture and replacing it with their own.

In view of modern developments, it does not seem natural to me to open our borders wide to stolen third-world money, cheap third-world products, exploited third-world ressources and ousted third-world butchers and dictators (if they bring along one of the before mentioned), but to close the same borders to the people who created this wealth, made these products, dug these ressources and kicked out these dictators.
