Not the same thing but in case anyone is unaware, if you have poor mobile signal in your house and you are with Orange, for a one off payment of about 20€ you can have a small device called a femtocell which plugs into your livebox and once set up, will give you full signal around your house. Maybe other providers have a similar device, I am not sure.

That SOSH looks interesting. It’s all a bit complicated for me to think about changing provider though as I have the technical ability of a newborn!

I am with Orange 33 euros per month for landline, internet, ligne rouge, unlimited calls apart from to some mobiles but no mobile  (I only have a little English mobile) and don’t watch French TV.

You wouldn’t need any technical ability to do it.  Just a grasp of French.  I did mine online with the help of Google Translater.  The new livebox router thing came with an illustrated user manual so no bother there.

Hi, we are with sfr. There is a facility on the modem to block up to 10 numbers. This works. You need to type in 192.168.1.1 in your web browser. Then ‘menu’. Then ‘telephonie’ You need to input your username, which is ‘admin’, and your password, which is on the bottom of the modem. Actually putting the numbers in is then easy. Other providers might have similar facilities

From the amount of crap calls I used to get with SFR a 10 number block list would last less than a week in practice.

Since reading about John P’s method – to not talk when I pick up the phone – that works a treat – saves all the raising of blood pressure while we ‘parley vous Anglais’ etc.  So many good tips on here – thank you, everyone, for your input – we will have a look at SOSH.  I typed the numbers etc. (that Paul Robinson suggested) into the browser and it brought me to my livebox account – imperative to keep our internet working well as it is, so I am not going to fiddle with the livebox settings at the moment. We will see how we go with the red pages, Bloctel and the ‘no speakie’ system and reinforce later if necessary.

I have been experiencing loads of these wretched intrusive cold calls ….sometimes up to 9 or 10 a day. I tried Bloctel and it did not stop the problem. Eventually I found the solution….I think on one of the replies here……BT Call Blocker. I bought it off Amazon…….

BT Advanced Cordless Home Phone with 100% Nuisance Call Blocking and Answering Machine, Twin Handset Pack

It is absolutely brilliant and has stopped all the cold calls stone dead. It is not the easiest thing to set up as one needs to type in the allowed numbers which takes a little time. However one doesn’t need to do everyone’s number. You get the chance to save a new incoming call as a contact later…and if someone doesn’t get through they can always use email. Basically for a non registered number the caller is invited to state their name. If they do this then your phone rings and you get the option to accept or reject the call. As to date none of the cold callers have left their name they don’t get put through and the phone does not ring. You can see who has phoned at any stage on the callers list.

I have Orange and it works fine on their setup.

I was not impressed with the batteries it cam with and replaced them with some rechargeable ones I had here.

    Totally brilliant.

Bloctel has always worked for us. We are not in the Pages Blanches either.

We’ve always been on the ‘liste rouge’ and don’t get any cold calls – see here

I’ve put my phone set on silence, and only check at miss call and voice mail few times a day. Told my daughter and parents to phone on my mobile in case of emergency.

I’ve been on bloctel for a while, but didn’t do anything. I discovered one month ago that I have to re-register on Bloctel, and put my phone number on liste rouge at the same occasion.

I was also receiving phone call at night !

Nothing have changed since, still receiving about 6 to 10 phone calls during the day, all different numbers so can’t make a complain, but at least I don’t hear the phone ringing for nothing anymore.

I just ring back the number that are identified, or the one who leave a message, because they do if it’s important.

So pleased someone has got a good result besides me.  Not had a single cold call in the years since installing the device.  :good:

Most of our important stuff is done online and family contact on Skype  so our “fixed line” phone is the only one we have for people to call us . Our phone has a ” reponder”  so anyone that seriously needs to contact us  leaves a message. All the cold callers hang up when the answering voice cuts in , simple but very effective .

As I have said we get no cold calls without purchasing any complicated blockers, just with the liste rouge, it works for us. We had one once and all I said was how did you get my number? This is a liste rouge number, they hung up immediately.

We run a farm Fruitcake, you can’t really be on the “red list” if you have a business. :-)

I didn’t realise you had spoken about a blocker Deboer and I did say it works for us, obviously everyone does what is right for their own circumstances, I am not technically able to sort out what sounded like a complicated blocker (nor do we run a business, those days are behind us now) hence me saying our system works for us and it might for someone else who is in the same situation as us which is why I posted it.

    We don’t have a ” blocker ” Fruitcake , just an answering machine . :-)

I tend to look for simple solutions to small problems like the ” Nuisance telephone sales calls ” question .

Just letting the phone ring on the answering machine, works perfectly for us . :yahoo:

In case anyone with Orange doesn’t know, 3103 is the number to call to hear the numbers that have called you and any messages that might have been left. Choices are to call the number that called or delete it.
