    Hi Guys,

I won’t go in to details, it may only invite “I told you so” comments.

I’ve been here for ‘a long time’, in concubinage with my French Partner and all taxes Fonciere and D’habitation paid, by me BUT I run a web based business, no clients in France so I have been ‘less than frank’ over the years.

I’m more than happy to ‘bite the bullet’ and declare myself as ‘taxable’ and pay my Income Taxes in France (all my employees are software freelancers based in India or other countries so no lectures on morality please) so my question is “Can I do it online or do I need to visit somewhere?”

Obviously I’m thinking Brexit/No Brexit but not from a financial point of view. This is from an “OK Andrew, you’ve paid all the bills for years (except Income Tax) but maybe not contributed towards the unemployed and immigrants”. “Now I realise that I’d struggle to get a CDS until and unless I register.

I don’t need a lecture on ‘integration’ folks but I’d certainly appreciate some advice on registering for the first time (I know) for Income Tax.

    Thanks in advance.

Go and see the tax people , tell them you have been resident since …… and they will tell you how much you need to pay to become legal . It’s not the tax people you need to worry about , they are pretty sympathetic , its the social security payments that you will have owed for ‘a long time’ and not paid .

So long as your business is not based in France ,  you will have nothing to pay .

To be very honest , why are you asking this question on a ex-pat site when you have a French girlfriend ?

Andrew J, are you implying that income tax just goes towards paying for the unemployed and immigrants?

I take it that all your income from the online business has been going into a French bank account? Have you got a numéro de Sécurité Sociale? And does your French partner declare every year, saying she’s in a couple, or has she been less than frank as well?

“OK Andrew, you’ve paid all the bills for years (except Income Tax) but maybe not contributed towards the unemployed and immigrants”

Unemployed : they are at least paying CSG, and also income taxes if their unemployement benefit is high enough.

Immigrants : “a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country”. The majority of them (80%) are working, so, in the taxe system too.

Advice : do you really expect an advice with words like that ? :bye:

Wow AJ,  You must really be panicking to have asked this question, I never liked the tone of your communication on this site- IMHO it was very “holier than thou” ! and reeked of self importance and omnipotence, full of intolerance to anyone who did not agree with your views

It would be interesting to see how this pans out- please keep us informed as I am sure that I am not the only one interested in your wellbeing

I do hope they shaft you people like you whe defy the laws and rules of any country you live in deserve all they get.I should imagine with the brexit mess they will be delighted to balance the books at your expense. You have behaved like a petty criminal and a spell in jail would send the message to thousands of brits like you who dodge the system. Hope it hurts you a lot. :yahoo:

This is not the place to be seeking advice. Those of us who have negociated the French system to try and do everything right and struggled to pay all the various taxes over the years will not have been in your position. The many like yourself who have been living “below the radar” are now finding, like you, that the chickens may be coming home to roost. I know at least two expats locally who are in a panic because for some reason they thought they could come here and live income tax free, with EHIC cards for health cover and drive English registered cars.

Brexit hasn’t happened overnight. It has been on the cards for over 3 years, why wait till now before doing anything? I admire your courage in holding your hands up but you need to do it to the authorities not here. I don’t think you will get advice or sympathy here.

    Really ?

No one really knows this gentleman or his circumstances . It’s quite possible that he has been living in France legally and not had to pay income tax in France due to various possibilities in the French tax laws . It is also possible that he has not had to pay cotisations either and has a private health insurance .

There are those on this site that will give good and factual information about many questions , there are also those that grab the pitchfork and fackle at the slightest hint of a vampire or “different thinking person ”

It may turn out that Andrew J doesn’t owe any money. The point is that he has by his own admission, been living here for years and has not registered with the impot which is an offence under French law. Your tax returns are the main proof you have that you have been a legal resident here and paid your dues. If you haven’t registered for whatever reason, you may have a problem when it comes to proving your right to be here.

The man did say that he has been ‘less than frank over the years’ which doesn’t create a positive spin on his activities or character.

Mmmmmm, I think ” being less than frank ” is the “French way ” of paying Impot , not like the British way of course , where all are up front and pay everything and in fact point out to the tax man when he has made a mistake !

As I said in my original answer to his post  , he needs to go see the Impot . They will put him on the right road , also they will inform the Secu. I am afraid that he has no chance in France ( or hell ) of getting a Carte de Sejour , unless of course he is a footballer !

As DI Jack Regan used to say in The Sweeney

“Get your trousers on you’re nicked”

Now what is that in French I wonder?

Dunno but my favourite line is “We’re the Sweeney son and we haven’t had any dinner”

I must say i’m beginning to wonder if AJ is bald-headed and lives in the nirvana which is Selby ?

15 years living in Paris, and married to his French partner according to an earlier post, before taking semi-retirement in the Charente Maritime, I’m wondering if we’ll soon get the, “It’s not for me, I’m asking for a friend” response.
