Me being ignorant of all things football . Why was a cup final between two British (?) teams played in Madrid ? Thus forcing the fans to fly all the way there and back ?

Same thing for the world cup in Quatar ?

It’s like building heated football fields in the Arctic , so that the eskimos can watch live football ! :yahoo:

All to do with wasting as much energy as possible and then telling us in Europe that we have to cut down on expending energy and producing carbon because of the environmental catastrophe that is arriving ?

I totally agree. Both the big football finals were played between English teams and on foreign soil. All the teams and supporters(those who could afford it) were flown thousands of miles to kick a ball round a field.

What incentive is there for anyone to cut their carbon footprint when faced with this kind of lunacy. How much is trump’s visit costing in emissions and resorces to get someone, who most people don’t want, and all his entourage across the atlantic?

Until greed, sport, big business and worthless politicians recognise there is a problem and set the example, how can you expect the rest of the people to see a reason to comply?

I would say more like , sport is big business” and moneymaking is the name of the game .

” ordinary people” are just there to be milked and they love every minute .

The place/stadium for the European club finals have to be arranged well in advance. You cannot expect them to be told it is cancelled due to the two teams having to travel too far. Madrid was fine, the other place, Baku, Azerbaijan where Chelsea and Arsenal played should never have been picked in the first place. Madrid was heaving with both clubs supporters, many went to Madrid without even having tickets for the game. Good choice of venue if truth be known.

    Of course it was Roger

Baku was an insult especially as it lead one player to not be available due to the politics, that was scandalous.

The venues have to be decided on well in advance in order to allow the host venue to organise itself. Saying that, the venues have to be sensible choices and because of some whim where UEFA have to be seen to be PC.

Madrid was an amazing success, well done to the organisers.

I love Madrids Bernabéu ground but still prefer Barca’s ground and it’s overall ambiance. When the teams come out to the hymn of Barca, Barca, Barca, the hairs on the back of my neck stand out. Almost as good as when Chelsea come out to the tune of “Liquidator”

Never been to either unfortunately. Iconic grounds like Old Trafford and Anfield take some beating. Never liked Stamford Bridge for some reason.

Will Sarri stay or will he be pushed out ? Will Lamps and JT come in a a dream team ? What can any manager/coach do without Hazard ?

Chelsea easy on a par with Utd ambiance wise but all stadiums bow to the crowd at Anfield. All teams learn to live without an iconic player, we never replaced Didier Drogba but still won the Europa League and another Premiership (although he had returned he wasn’t picked to play very often, it was a comeback which never really happened). Liverpool lost Gerrard through retirement, Coutinho and Luis Suarez to name but three great players but still went on to win the Champions league and miss out so closely in winning the Premier title..
Hazard will be missed but a club learns to cope, or should do by seeking another player or two. We have the American lad, Christian Pulisic from Germany, he looks pretty good.
Lampard and JT have very little managerial experience, I think that maybe Abromovich will go again for experience but who knows, Lampard has had a good first year as a manager. Sirri might not get pushed, there are rumours of Italian clubs seeking him. It’s the way Chelsea work under Abromovich, the managers even when pushed do very well indeed out of it and who can say that Chelsea haven’t benefited hugely since he took over from old misery guts, Ken Bates.
You may not have visited Stamford Bridge in recent years? It’s an excellent ground now and will be even better if Abromovich decides to restart the improvement programme, the design looks incredible.

    Hurray for Waitrose , it’s a start .

Their shop looks a bit like the bio-shops and some of the supermarkets in France !  Who said the UK was stuck in the middle-ages ?

Haven’t been to Stamford Bridge since the days of the Shed !

The problem mostly with the “shed” was the distance from the pitch, due in part to the Greyhound track and viewing wasn’t great. We stood close to, or on the halfway line and let the bovver boys have the shed!! ;-)
