@stinky such brilliant news! Well done to all of you for being so endlessly patient and I am so glad you managed to be there at the bitey end for the grand finale. Has he got a name yet? Thanks for letting us know, that has made my day :yahoo:

Apparently it has to be a French boys name beginning with H, looked up a list and saw Hyacinthe !   Perfect!   To satisfy the registration rules as in kennel club!   :rose:   :rose:

I understand that ‘Hector’ the foal is now out in the field having a great time, jumping around and feeling the joy of life.  Good for Stinky & Jerome. 🏇

Hi Blue, not Hector but am suggesting to Jerome the name, Hercules.

Starts with H, and is apparently also a plant/shrub, that grows in Jeromes’ native Corsica.

Saw the foal today, leaping and skipping in the field, sheer joy.

Gosh what a beautiful picture of Hercule,  he looks so well and standing up proud and healthy!  You should be in there too with your blue wellies on! Except we wouldn’t know on a black & white photo!  Plus his proud Mum Jonquille  too.  Thanks Stinky ! 🐎

What a beautiful photo! Sometimes I think black & white photos give a better dimension to them and accentuate the characters within that photo. Just lovely!

And so on this bloody freesinks rainy day, I shared a patch of ankle deep mud with Jonquilles.
    She still chews my collar.
Hercules, as I call him, a name unfortunately unacceptable to the powers that be, is a healthy yearling with a view to disobeying all and sundry.
His delight, to thunder towards me and stop somewhat too close for my liking.
    And to shred my bootlaces.
    He is Adonis.
    And she is round.
    Like an equine barge.
Mares are healthier when pregnant, in the wild, they mate as soon as they are in season after birth.
Keep a filly or mare for showjumping or racing and they have PMT +vat and added attitude plus a foul mood.
So stay away from the biting end.
    And the kicking end.
Hormone drugs are used to help them manage.
Jonquilles looks so happy, albeit a little rotund.
Will advise of foaling day when I can, about May I think and I hope she has a better birth this time.
    For my sleep pattern also.
You were all so kind in wishing her well.
I wonder if there is a market for part chewed polo shirts……

Oh keep Deffos. Aside from the possible winnings, and he loves to run, he is one of us, a family. And should have a very happy breeding life. So many mares, so little time.

    An hour with Jonquilles.
    This is so Deja Vu.
    Her contentment is evident.
She is over 400 kilos, but I trust her.
My face so close to hers.
My hand covering her nostrils, gently stroking.
    Looking into huge brown eyes.
    Trust, memory and comfort.
She is due to foal May 2nd.
Not long, but she is comfortable and calm.
    And large.
Her head so heavy, rests on my shoulder, pushing against my jaw, but gently, as if aware of my frailty.
Under her chin I scratch and she chuckles.
    I love this horse.
I will be there when it is her time.
There for her and also to keep you all up to speed.
    Stinky.

I can’t believe a year has passed since we last read your wonderful prose of this same event when Hercules was born! Polish up those wellies Stinks! (Much safer than boots with half-chewed laces)

Vk, on paper, he is ‘Holdup’, in keeping with some of the lineage sires names.
Apparently there were more Hercules than France has Jean-Pauls and so it was objected to. Will dig out his full name and post it here. He starts full time professional training at three for endurance racing. As he progresses, he will advance from 40km through 60/90/120 and on to the big boy stuff of 160km.
    He walks nowhere.
    He runs and just runs.
    For the joy of it.

    12 days (hopefully) and counting.
She trusts me now, a complete equine amateur, to walk her from her stall to the meadow.
Jerome says it is a paddock, but I am a little more romantic.
Her halter is loose in my hand.
If she chooses to stop or wander off, there is nothing I can do.
But she seems content with my company.
And the apple in my pocket.
Leccy fence rehitched and her halter off, she is free to graze wherever she so chooses.
A short walk and then a little trot/gambol.
Head high and a call to the world.
Other horses answer and I am in a world of whinnies, snorts and explosive coughs.
In the adjoining paddock three horses are racing up and down its entire length, turning and racing back.
    Just yards away.
I can hear their thunder, feel their joy.
I can feel their thunder, like a fast approaching heartbeat.
You cannot buy a feeling such as this.
A privilege to be accepted in their world.
