have been thinking about getting solar panels fitted,

has anyone had them fitted?   which in their opinion ( thermique or photovoltaiques)  are better,

any experiences or other things I should be aware of.

    :good:

The main thing is that you have to have your roof checked to see if it can carry the weight.

Thermal solar panels are for heating a fluid to circulate through your hot water tank through a special seperate coil inside the tank. There are two types,  one is a flat panel and another has glass tubes with a central copper rod. The end of the rod is immersed in the fluid flow on its way to the tank coil. The copper rod gets hot enough to burn your fingers. Myself, I use the panel type. I  have no data on the comparative efficiency of the two types.

photovoltaic panels convert sunlight directly into electricity, but this has to be modified to be useful directly by your household equipment. You need to surf the net to grasp the different ways the produced power can be modified for use. The idea of feeding back excess power to EDF is possible but a rip-off. You will be offered next to nothing per kWh and on a 20 year contract. It’s a big investment with a very long ROI if it is achieved at all. I am waiting for the science to improve sunlight conversion efficiency before I leap. Please note, EDF will not allow feedback contracts if the panels are not on a roof, ground mounted panels, which you can reach to clean regularly may be installed, but you will not get a contract for feedback.
