Stade Rennais have just beaten PSG in  the French Cup.

Final score 2 – 2 after extra time, Rennes won  6 – 5 on penalties,

    Epic

First time Rennes have won a trophy since 1971.

Excellent result for Stade Rennais but it’s a shame that EA Guingamp are going down…………..again

Brilliant from Rennes and a welcome kick in the goolies for too-rich PSG and their pretentious fans. I had on eye on that on French telly but opened the champers as I watched the mighty Canaries return to the top flight. I’m a very proud Norfolk lad this morning…

Yep Roger, Guingamp and my french team SM Caen not brilliant this season, maybe this shows just how mediocre French domestic football really is ?

Totally agree with you there Pete, about a kick in the goolies for too rich PSG.

One thing which I thought was shameful was the use of lasers to try and blind the Stade Rennes players when they were about to try and take part in the penalty shootout, which they eventually won :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: , by supporters of PSG.

Shame on them and they got their just deserts for doing such.

Was watching it on TF2 here BTW.

Sadly Pete, French football is quite mediocre. I used to watch Stade Rennais, easy to park, short walk to the ground but eventually and although the supporters were fun (most of the time) the games were often less than mediocre. They have one or two good players now and rumours all the time once that Wenger had his eye out for a player or two, obviously not now! Petr Cech came to Chelsea by way of Rennes and apparently he will return to Chelsea as the goalkeeping coach next season.

I zapped between TF1 and TF2 and saw the own goal from PSG, but missed the end. Well done Rennes, la honte for PSG. Just goes to show that even if you pump silly money into a team, if the opponents want the win enough, they’ll get it.

Sorry to hijack your thread lads and I know nothing of French football but to me, that statement says it all about today’s football in general. It should be all about the desire to win, shouldn’t it?

I’ll go away now and leave you to your discussion – apologies for the interruption.

I used to watch Caen in the good old days when they were as mediocre as they are today. Those were the days when they played at the stadium in the city at Venoix in front of an intimidating 12000 crowd. Parking was a pain but the atmosphere was brilliant. They moved to their posh new stadium out of town near the airport at Carpiquet and the atmosphere was all but lost. The one thing that didn’t change tho’ was the crap football !!

Chelsea are what they are. I can’t see Roman A staing there much longer. Sarri can’t survive can he ?And what the flipping heck will they do when Hazard leaves ? He’s the only real quality player at the club IMO though Kanti and others are useful.

Abromovich has not been seen at many games this season, so the writing may be on the wall, rumours of a new rich owner abound, we shall see. Goodness knows what CFC will do if and when Hazard departs. He is not the only one with quality at Chelsea but he is the one with the highest quality and replacing him will be tough but like many teams, cometh the day etc…

Tell you what John, we’ve been lucky lately, losing points for the top four place but the gooners, Man u & Chelski also dropping points !

European Cup semi final is a big bonus !

Yeah, a great season considering we haven’t spent any money for the past few transfer deadlines, I think Maura was the last one january 2018 ! Well done Mopo.

Your lot doing ok tho’ I reckon you’ll be losing Zaha soon ….

There is talk at the palace that his preference is that he wants to go to Spurs  rather than man utd after his last Horror outing at old Trafford. Also Spurs are Number 1 to land Aaron Wan-Bissaka rather than Man city.

Spurs could easily challenge City & Liverpool next season for top spot if they land the 2 palace boys :-) .

meanwhile palace are trying to get Attilio Lombardo & Eric Young out of retirement for next season  .

Blimey John, a hint of  desperation !

I thought Zaha was lined up to go to PSG ? He would do well at WHL alongside his England U21 mate Harry K.

Townshend would still be there if he hadn’t complained about his contract etc !!

Why not CP make an exchange with Spurs for Zaha with Lloriente plus cash the other way ?

Aha, Eric Young, he is a good friend of mine, has two brothers just as tall, Julian and Dave. When he signed for Wimbledon (remember he won an FA cup winners medal when they beat Liverpool) on first day of training the crazy gang thought they could cut off his trouser legs and rip his shirt, they soon found out that the normally placid Eric would not be messed about….He played for us as an amateur then moved on to Slough where another friend was running the side what was then a very good side, from there to Brighton and on and on he went. He never stopped his accountancy courses with Natwest, always thinking of a career after soccer. We lived opposite the Young family for a while before we moved to France, one day Eric was fuming, someone had stolen his beloved BMW, it was found same day in one of the East End docks by a container ready to be shipped out, his training bag and name was seen by a docker and was reported…..Eric continued playing right up in to his forties with Egham Town, another local side. Good lad, played well for us, so no surprise when he was snapped up, how he played for Wales is another story!

Eric the ‘Ninja’ Young,,,, love the guy , so reliable every game and Never gave up & always had time to talk to the fans before and after games. We had such a great midfield / defence with Eric in the squad along side Gareth Southgate & Richard Shaw / Andy Thorn in the early 1990`s .

Just had a check on wiki for the CP squad for the 1992/93 season. A relegation season I notice so why did they sell Mark Bright ?? Did Ron need the money ?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992%E2%80%9393_Crystal_Palace_F.C._season

It’s noticeable that the only ‘overseas’ player is Irish international Eddie McGoldrick !

Forgot too that Stan Collymore was there for a while.

    Yep, brilliant.

    Chris Wilder has worked miracles.

Sheffield Rugby League doing well also this season, they play at the Olympic Legacy Park nowadays on synthetic turf. Eddie Waring will be turning in his grave !!

excellent PJ, thanks. watching it, but without sound, but that’s ok. Suarez looks like his normal antagonistic self.
