I really want some Brazil nuts but have not seen any, I have only looked in the supermarket with no joy but wondered if anyone knew where they are available here?

    WP

    Brazil nuts are my favourite.

They have been very scarce for two or three years on account that some individual decided they were poisonous. There was much ado about it in UK.

Interestingly you can still get Brazils in mixed nut selections from some supermarkets.

I have eaten Brazil nuts all my life and am not dead yet.

Really? I never knew that! I have seen them for sale in most supermarkets in the UK but not here. I adore them. At christmas we always used to have a box of Just Brazils in the house, my Mum used to guard them but I usually managed to sneak a few! I have been peering in the bags of mixed nuts but not seen any lurking. If I find any suppliers I will let you know :good:

Biocoops tend to sell them but they are rather expensive. I love them too and they are very good for you.

They are poisonous if eaten in large enough quantities, I remember an episode of ‘House’ where this happened…..

Haha! I binge watched some House last week! I will look in Biocoop, thanks. If it works out cheaper then I will wait until Holland and Barrett have a buy one get one half price sale and order a load, if any other addict wants to share an order then let me know.

I think that most people get fed up after de -shelling more than a dozen or so.

I seem to remember crushing a load of them years ago and using them as pat of a crust on a five bird roast. Lush!

Will look in Morrisons tomorrow! Probably ready shelled though. If you live near to Plonevez du Faou I can bring some across next Sunday!

They have them in the Bio section in most supermarkets but hellishly expensive.I think it is the shell that contains the toxin which is why you can only find them deshelled.

I’ve done a quick look at the various supermarkets WP and the best best deal is Asda three packets of ready shelled nuts for £3 .   Not a very long shelf life though ! 🐿

I love those Witchy – lovely thick layer of chocolate then the creamy, nutty nut. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without them (or brandy snaps). Oh no, I’ve got a craving for them now. Will have to break open the box of Quality Street I’ve got stashed upstairs instead. Hubby doesn’t know about them  :yahoo:

@lipstick I just told my Mum about this conversation, she got the giggles and admitted to being an ogre with the box! Hope you managed to inhale the Quality Street without hubby noticing.

Thanks BE for that lovely offer, I am coming over to the UK soon so I will stock up then. Thanks also Blue, I shall take a trip to Asda.  :good:

Leclerc in Gourin sells them in their serve yourself ‘vrac’ section, 32€50 per kilo, and Intermarché in Carhaix does the same, but at 44€90 per kilo!

That’s expensive, I think Asda in the UK sell them for about £10 odd a kilo.
