No, they don’t, Roger, but the explanations of the different cards on the site does give one a better understanding of the different type of cards and why they are needed. Always good to look and learn , especially if you’re a simple Brit!! ;-)

Mine has taken exactly 4 weeks to the day since the rdv. There would also have been a slight delay as I didn’t have my birth certificate which I sent afterwards. No idea how long mine will be valid for, I’ll have to wait and see.

Just bringing this back to the top here.

Having applied for my CDS/TDS back in August 2018 with the notification that it would take approx 4 weeks,  I find myself now, some 5 months later, with no news, no notifications despite having made numerous inquiries and having tried on at least 4 occasions to phone. One local official acting on my behalf fears that my application may have gotten ‘mislaid’.  They are again going to act on my behalf and have told me to perhaps expect an answer this coming Thursday.

Anyone else out there having to wait so long?

Crikey Gleaner that’s an awfully long wait! I think your local official must be right in his fear that your application has gone AWOL somewhere! I hope it’s found and they then treat it with urgency (if such a word exists in the vocabulary of anyone working for a governmental body!)

No, been here 8+ years and just haven’t felt the need. Also, even if we did have one would it matter as surely a new system will require a whole new set of rules so it could become obsolete anyway?? We’re just to sit it out and see what happens. Can say we waste too much time thinking about it to be honest. What will be will be, NOTHING is forever!

Don’t know what happened to  my typing finger! Should have said ‘We’ll just sit it out’ and ‘Can’t waste too much time….’

CDS. is free apart from your time, printer ink and paper .As a non European 260€ each ,no guarantee the french authorities will invent a special status category for us Brits .Your nearest is Brest sub prefecture so not as far as some have to travel. The french government has advised brits to apply for them .The need ,well hospitals might want to see them instead of passports for one .Any gov office .Been here 27 years and reapplied for one whilst waiting for Nationality to come through.

In december, the lady at the prefecture told us that Bill CDS “might not” be valid after the 29th of March, but told us it will be easier and quicker to exchange it for a new one “if” we need to, as he will be already registred. So, IMO, not a waste of time, just forward planing. And as Marion said, free of charge :good:

27 weeks of waiting and today we have received news that they have found my application but need another photo sent and then they will begin processing it. It appears that I may have aged that much whilst waiting for the notification to arrive. Just hope it doesn’t take them another 27 weeks!

Good news Gleaner. Maybe you should send them your latest EDF bill (justificatif de domicile) aswell. Knowing French administration, they might discover later they need it as the one you gave them 27 weeks ago, will be to old now !

Just seen these two postings on FB if they’re of any interest to anyone

    First posting

Message on St Brieuc Prefecture website

    Second posting

When I questioned the British embassy on this, this is the reply I received…
We have received feedback from UK Nationals in France describing isolated issues with certain local prefectures when applying for a carte de sejour. We discuss this with the French Interior Ministry, who have assured us that any UK Nationals currently living legally in France and exercising their EU rights are able to request a carte de sejour. We have also been told that they have written to all prefectures in France reminding them of the current rights of UK nationals.

    Interesting wording:

“who have assured us that any UK Nationals currently living legally in France and exercising their EU rights are able to request a carte de sejour”.

‘Requesting’ and ‘obtaining’ are two very different things!

Indeed they are Marie, I think the point being made is that the prefectures should not be denying appointments for those requests. Of course, any request is subject to acceptance or refusal I imagine.

@Marie, ref your ” ‘Requesting’ and ‘Obtaining’ are two very different things” quote there. Too right.

It’s now 32 weeks or 8 months, and guess what……
