That’s very reassuring, whocares, if only those three things are necessary, as I’ve got all three. Problem for me is in Finistère one has to actually go to the préfecture in Quimper or the sous-préfecture in Brest to get the appointment, can’t be done online here.
Anyway, after twenty minutes I left with a temporary permit which says that my permanent residence certificate will be valid until august 2025 and that I am entitled to work professionally. This latter point is important.
Important for me as well. A bit odd that 2025 is neither 5 nor 10 years away.
Anonymous24th October 2018 at 8:32 pm #422760That was what puzzled me, one year, five year, ten year and a permanent (didn’t know there was but have been toild there is?) T de S….Are you sure whocares it wasn’t a longer date, or indeed shorter?
Anonymous24th October 2018 at 9:05 pm #422779Roger, whocares said “I left with a temporary permit which says that my permanent residence certificate will be valid until august 2025”, so it’s obviously marked on the temporary permit (another reassuring thing).
Anonymous24th October 2018 at 9:51 pm #422816Sorry I have never heard of a temporary permit, what is this? And what is a permanent residence certificate?
I honestly am wondering what they are?Is it another version, or indeed is it a titre de Sejour, or?

Anonymous25th October 2018 at 8:58 am #422844On closer examination it seems rather better than I had thought. The permit has no time limit and seems to state quite clearly that the right to reside and engage in all professional activities has been granted but the piece of paper is only valid when accompanied by my passport. It is that which expires in 2025 hence the mention of the previous expiration date. I admit I had wondered about the odd time period myself.
Anyway, it remains to be seen what the expiration date will be on the permanent card that I receive in five weeks (or whenever it arrives). The temporary card clearly states that I have demanded the deliverance of a ‘titre de sejour permanent’ and that this temporary card has been given until 23/04/2019. I assume the permanent card will have no time limit after all the police searches etc. are carried out but am quite prepared for it to be similarly limited by my passport. Therefore in August 2025 I may well have to renew it if I have not taken French citizenship by then.
Either way I am pleased with the card and happy to be just that little bit more French. Well worth the effort in my book and good luck to others that take the same path. Incidentally VK it is not a given that only those three things are necessary but they were in my case. This is possibly because although he only took detail from these three things he had whizzd through my dossier and seen French pension forecasts from Carsat, URSSAF attestations etc. Just take all you can lay your hands on. Above all be appreciative, friendly and smile.

I am glad that you had an easy time at Vannes for us it took 3 visits.
We had to pay 25€ for my husbands new card.Anonymous25th October 2018 at 10:47 am #422887So in reality it is a Titre de Sejour, thank goodness I thought there were “Cartes” I hadn’t heard about. Thanks whocares it all makes sense now.
To be completely honest it was knowing my husbands meaness ( he says careful) that prompted me to do the paperwork to renew our lapsed Cds ,lapsed in 2005 ish .For the moment being free apart from my time ,printer ink and paper. We are just 20 mins from Quimper so no hastle for us either.
Anonymous25th October 2018 at 1:26 pm #422922The French government website has quite a good section explaining the different types of cards.
Yes I know, tigre most forms of differing “cartes” don’t really apply to us simple Brits wanting to stay and live here in France

Just bringing this back to the top here.
Having applied for my CDS/TDS back in August 2018 with the notification that it would take approx 4 weeks, I find myself now, some 5 months later, with no news, no notifications despite having made numerous inquiries and having tried on at least 4 occasions to phone. One local official acting on my behalf fears that my application may have gotten ‘mislaid’. They are again going to act on my behalf and have told me to perhaps expect an answer this coming Thursday.
Anyone else out there having to wait so long?
Crikey Gleaner that’s an awfully long wait! I think your local official must be right in his fear that your application has gone AWOL somewhere! I hope it’s found and they then treat it with urgency (if such a word exists in the vocabulary of anyone working for a governmental body!)
No, been here 8+ years and just haven’t felt the need. Also, even if we did have one would it matter as surely a new system will require a whole new set of rules so it could become obsolete anyway?? We’re just to sit it out and see what happens. Can say we waste too much time thinking about it to be honest. What will be will be, NOTHING is forever!
