In trying to get my laptop back to a working system, I have come across several sites suggesting that allowing computers to download and install Windows updates is not necessary. Not knowing enough about the operating system, I’m posing the question here in case there is anyone au fait enough who can give me a reasonable response.

Not ‘au fait’ but interested to hear the answer as I have often wondered myself.

I too have wondered, but maybe it’s to increase the security?  :rose:

Windows updates are usually to fix bugs in the program, update drivers, update media player codecs, fix security Loophole’s. Don’t actually think you can disable them in win 10. Maybe its a case of the people advising you not to bother with windows updates, are the people who will hack your laptop when you are not keeping up with the updates.

I’m interested in Windows 7, but the question probably applies to all Windows systems.

So common concensus would have us believe bo but possibly it is simply another ploy by the puppet masters to gather our personal data.

I think the answer is that if you don’t allow updates you are putting your computer security at risk. If you are running windows XP or older these are no longer supported with updates and you would be unwise to store or operate financial transactions on your computer. Not sure if Vista is still supported or not.
