Perhaps they do Pete, wherever there is a choice of hard work or starve, women will always go the extra mile to care for their families , plus I have to say, men too, my beloved grandfather , who I adored , was one such man, a hardworking Miner . In his village in Yorkshire , he was also the first aid man, held dances in the village hall, made and decorated  wedding cakes and I think  they also had a shop too . A lot of stuff lost in time. My grandma was a worker too, worked in a big house, up at 5am to make the fires for the owners etc!
