Odds of being killed in a road accident far outweigh the odds of being killed in a terrorist attack but we all jump into our cars without a second thought. The media scaremongering has worked again…
Anonymous21st April 2017 at 10:41 pm #142059No intention of selling up. Will leave it to our family who can sell it if they want or let it rot like our neighbours are doing. I know I’m the only one on here to admit to it but I know a few folk who don’t feel comfortable anymore on ferries. You were always good at talking the talk Sidney. Enough from me now because admin has me on a yellow card already.
Anonymous21st April 2017 at 10:41 pm #142061Logic, a city like Paris has a population of million’s, the odds of you being caught up in a terrorist attack are probably the same as winning the lotto, its all down to luck. I just like millions of other road users have probably missed death by a matter of seconds hundreds of times during my forty odd years of driving. Once had a burger in a Wimpy in London, week later the IRA blew it to bits. What’s the other option, bar all the windows, bolt all the doors and hide up?.
Anonymous21st April 2017 at 10:49 pm #142063Don’t feel comfortable on ferries BE, would that be ferries that set sail overloaded, with the bow doors open or maybe even have the doors fall off?. The idea of terrorism is to terrorise the public, seems like its working.
Anonymous21st April 2017 at 11:11 pm #142069Sid, so what common sense do you apply to travel?
You didn’t read my post about it then? It was all in there…..
If a ferry takes me to where I need to go, so be it. Same for a plane or a train, by my thinking, you just have to play it by ear, that is to say, if one gets a warning from the police or the government about a danger in an area you were going to.
Anonymous21st April 2017 at 11:19 pm #142073BE do you sometimes forget what you have posted?
Not bothered for myself, had a good longish life but the thought of our family being murdered on a cross channel ferry is to horrendous to contemplate. And then you tell us:
No intention of selling up. Will leave it to our family who can sell it if they want or let it rot like our neighbours are doing…………..So by leaving the house. will you be telling them not to travel by ferry to the house once they own it? Or will they have the gumption to use the ferry? For your own sake and for the dread you have for your family, sell the house man and feel a lot better knowing they won’t, in your own words, be murdered on a ferry.
Anonymous21st April 2017 at 11:23 pm #142075Don’t travel abroad, (plenty to visit in France) certainly not on ferries, haven’t been to UK by ferry for over 20yrs, on my own boats, yes.
Anonymous21st April 2017 at 11:31 pm #142096Not the question though, Bill. You said good to BE’s post but “you look for danger” every time you take a car out (look at the levels of road deaths here in France for a start) or even out on in your boat, plenty of imbeciles (not you) out in boats, some having had a skinful, What about the young girl who got blown up outside McDonalds in Dinan many years ago? Danger lurks everywhere, you just have to get on with life, or like I said, hole up until it all clears up which might be a few hundred years, so get plenty of food and drink in.
Government warnings against travelling to certain countries have been with us for along time now, but can one rely on the Government and police regarding terrorist attacks when travelling? I don’t think so. We are all different and have different fears, I have to say, I’ve often thought the ferries would be an easy target for the terrorists. It wouldn’t put me off travelling on them, but I quite understand why some would.
Anonymous21st April 2017 at 11:40 pm #142113Well you asked me what my common sense was and that is how I see it and you never read it before? Of course I listen to the government and police when they send out warnings about traveling to some countries, why would I not listen, or take notice. I don’t get how you can say can we rely on them telling us to avoid places? So when we are told about certain countries where civil wars are taking place, or a route has dangers due to gangs attacking travelers, you would take no notice? That would be very bizarre indeed.
You missed my point, Sid! For example, there’s no government warnings about travelling on the ferries, but if there was a terrorist attack on a ferry would you have expected to have be warned? No, of course not, because they haven’t a bloody clue when and where the next attack will take place! Hence, not being able to rely on them.
Anonymous22nd April 2017 at 12:35 am #142148Sorry but you have completely missed my point about govt, or police warnings.. It was purely on being warned first, thereby having a choice on whether to travel to a place or not. Your post about Westminster Bridge was pointless, no government nor intelligence could forewarn something like that. Of course they cannot warn us all about most things that occur, that is obvious. I can’t believe you actually thought that was my point when it was far from it. Surely you see warnings on TV about traveling to certain countries and I did say that and it was my point but…………
Anonymous22nd April 2017 at 8:15 am #142178Forget it, we appear to be at cross purposes, nothing changes when text is involved. I’ll just say how can anyone.MI5 or whoever warn you of a surprise attack e.g Westminster Bridge, Paris the other day and on other occasions elsewhere, simple answer, obviously they can’t.
22nd April 2017 at 10:51 am #142214@jackie Extracted from The Telegraph 22-03-2017…
It was the terrorist attack that police and security services always feared, but hoped would never come. A man, dressed all in black, drove a car at 50mph the full length of Westminster Bridge, aiming deliberately at pedestrians and cyclists.
